The annual A Weekend of Heroes Action Figure Convention/Military and Law Enforcement Recruitment display is proudly entering its 7th year over the weekend of June 21~22, 2008 at the historical Glendale Auditorium in Glendale, California.
A Weekend of Heroes began as a venue for military action figure collectors to meet the real heroes of yesteryears. Over the past five years, the convention has grown to include a sister show, USAirsoft Expo. From World War II to Vietnam to current conflicts, A Weekend of Heroes is THE most effective and fun-filled way for generations to share a piece sense Americana!
When kids are fascinated by the toy combat dioramas, and the rattling sounds from Airsoft shooting tunnels, conversation between father and son, grandfather and grandchild will begin…..A Weekend of Heroes is all about preserving history.
2008 theme is “Remembering The Grunts”. From the hellish night in Lang Vei emerged an American hero who simply refused to lay low and die in the bunker …… meet the legendary Green Beret, Col. Paul Longgrear, who fought alongside his men and his grunts through one of the most hair-raising battles in 1968. An exclusive of Col. Longgrear will be unveiled.
Before our Special Forces were engaged in the rocky hills of Afghanistan, troops of the former Soviet Union were bogged down in one of the most ancient battle grounds in the East. Meet, Sgt. Igor Dorbroff of the former Russian Army……
Echobase Toys and War Toys will once again team up to host the annual 1:6 scale Custom Figure, Vehicle, and Diorama Contest. Other contests categories include 1:18 scale Diorama Contest and 1:1 scale (real people) Military Costumes Contest.
HOOTERS Restaurant will once again host the wildly popular “Ladies in Military Costume Contest”. (tastefully done in military tradition).
Our friends from the UK, Airsoft International Magazine, will once again host the Military Loadout Contest. Winner of the contest will be featured on one of AI’s magazine cover.
Featured in USAirsoft EXPO is North America’s largest Airsoft tournament, Operation Lion Claws, whose military simulation has proved to be an extremely effective method to instill a sense of HONOR. TACTICS. UNITY in Airsoft enthusiasts nationwide. Meet the creator of the Lion Claws series and the men behind the myth……what it takes to operate a successful airsoft Mil-Sim event.
USAirsoft EXPO this year is all about Law-Enforcement-Friendly. As an industry, USAexpo has taken the responsibility to help educate the public about the inherent danger of airsoft. Come meet Christy and Sierra from the hit Airsoft Safety dvd!!!
Nonprofit groups such as the US Army, California Highway Patrol, Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA), historical re-enactment groups among many others will also be onsite.
All military personnel, Law Enforcement officers, Fire Fighters and family members with proper ID are admitted free to the convention hall weekend. Public hours are Sat.10am~6pm, and Sun. 10am~3pm. General admission for the public is $7.00, children ages 12 and under admitted FREE. Children and Teens ages 17 and under admitted FREE all day SUNDAY.
